Crossroads of Business Efficiency with Risk & Data Governance

Overview of the ‘Crossroads’ article series:

‘The Crossroads’ is a term and concept sometimes used to describe the intersection of different technologies, business issues, etc. and using it allows visualizations that can help narrow in on what precisely is being discussed. We titled this article series ‘Crossroads of Business Efficiency, Risk and Data Governance’ as it describes the primary focus for our consulting work where we think a large amount of business benefit can be derived.

This focus may be of particular benefit for companies just getting started on their journey towards implementing their business improvement, data governance and compliance efforts. Our primary focus is on companies that have been growing fast, and startups, with a special focus on efficiency, AI tool usage and Data Governance Risk.

There is quite often a relationship between how much data a company has and the amount of business risk a company has. Factors impacting the amount of risk also include:

  • whether a company knows where all of their data is
  • where the data the company holds came from
  • the amount of data that is structured vs. unstructured
  • how siloed the company structure is
  • the amount of PII data a company holds (PII data is Information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity)
  • whether the company is categorized by the GDPR regulations as a ‘processor of data’.
  • the maturity of the data governance used at a company
